In September 2021, Ruskin’s View and the Brow Footpath were closed by Cumbria County Council due to land instability and erosion.
2022
Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council, who own the footpath, increased the precept on Council Tax, to start work on a recovery plan.
The ‘Friends of Ruskin’s View’ was set up to lead a fundraising campaign to ‘Save Ruskin’s View’ and reopen the Brow footpath.
2023
A successful fundraising campaign gets underway
‘Save Ruskin’s View’ Website launched.
Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council Technical Working Group formed with aim to re-opening brow footpath in a cost-effective approach that is low risk and safe for public access.
2024
‘Friends of Ruskin’s View’ obtain Registered Charity Status – No. 1207211
Ruskin’s Viewpoint and first section of Footpath re-opened. This marked the successful completion of Phase 1 of the restoration project. Work was funded by ‘The Friends of Ruskin’s View’
